Viennese Salon

Eugene Vocal Arts, Eugene Concert Orchestra, soloists
Diane Retallack, Artistic Director & Conductor

At the turn of the 19th century, Vienna was culturally alive with the music of Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, and their contemporaries. Celebrated and acclaimed among these well-known composers was Marianna von Martines, whose spirited choral masterwork Dixit Dominus we feature in this performance. Salon concerts were extravagant affairs, with the finest artists and composers showing many genres, from arias and art songs to solo instrumental pieces and major choral/ orchestral works. Join us as we take you back to this enchanting time, with elegant music by these composers.
